ok, here we go again...

Ding, ding, ding! Round two of Hurricane season 2005. Evacuation preparation number 2!

It looks like hurricane Katrina is headed straight for New Orleans. Should this forecasted category 4 hurricane hit the Crescent City area, we will be in the worst possible spot--the Northeast quadrant. This is where the most damaging winds occur and are likely to produce tornadoes.

Should we have to evacuate (which we will if it is a Category 3 or higher) we cannot go West as New Orleans will be evacuating tomorrow. We learned last year, when evacuating form Ivan, it is a futile and frustrating to evacuate with the million or so people making a mass exodus form the Big Easy! Going North to Jackson or Hattiesburg would be stupid as the storm is projected to head there after attacking the Coast. So our only options are to stay in Harrison County and head to a friends house north of I-10 or head to Pensacola to Kyle’s Aunt and Uncle’s who have so graciously offered us refuge. We will know more tomorrow once the forecast is more accurate and let everyone know exactly where we will be going.

Kyle boarded all of the windows this evening, so that is done. Since we were going to Sam’s anyway today for dog food, we picked up staples of can goods and non perishables. Kyle also braved Walmart for more necessities and got more propane, so we should be somewhat set for a week or so without electricity. We’ll fill all the containers we own with water tomorrow before we evacuate.

I will try continue to update here on my blog, as I will be able to access it from any computer with internet. It is also a bit more efficient than trying to email everyone. So check back often for updates if you are wondering how we are!
